Director, Communications (Remote)

Liftoff is seeking a talented Director, Communications to join our growing team. 

This role requires a strategic thinker with expertise in media relations, principal preparation and management, message development, and storytelling. You will oversee a range of communications initiatives, serve as a trusted advisor to clients, and help elevate their profiles through effective strategies and messaging.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Liftoff’s Vice President of Communications to develop and execute strategic communications plans for clients, tailored to their goals and audiences.

  • Contribute to media prep for candidates and organizational leaders, including for interviews, debates, speeches, and other public appearances.

  • Craft compelling press releases, talking points, op-eds, and other external communications materials.

  • Pitch and shape stories with reporters, cultivating strong relationships with media outlets to secure coverage.

  • Pitch, book, and coordinate client media engagements. 

  • Work with clients to develop social media plans that advance an organization's larger communications goals.

  • Provide strategic guidance on crisis communications and rapid-response messaging.

  • Oversee the planning and execution of press events, including press conferences and media roundtables.

  • Support clients’ internal communications staff in executing communications projects.

  • Monitor and analyze media coverage, identifying opportunities to refine and amplify messaging.

  • Collaborate with the creative and digital teams at Liftoff to maximize communications and digital opportunities, and to ensure message consistency across all channels.

  • Train and mentor junior staff in communications best practices and client management.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Passion for advancing Democratic values and supporting good causes.

  • 6-8 years of experience in political communications, media relations, or a similar field, including work on high-profile campaigns or with mission-driven organizations.

  • Proven ability to craft persuasive messaging and adapt communication strategies for various platforms and audiences.

  • Experience preparing candidates or principals for media interviews, debates, and other public engagements.

  • Strong network of media relationships and a track record of successfully pitching stories.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with an ability to create compelling press materials, op-eds, and talking points.

  • Strategic thinker with political instincts and an ability to respond effectively under pressure.

  • Experience managing teams and leading cross-functional collaborations.

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Experience developing social media strategies and content across various platforms.

  • Experience mentoring junior communications staff.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary: $90,000–$115,000 annually.

Digital Manager (Remote)

Liftoff is seeking a talented Digital Manager to join our growing team. Liftoff Campaigns is a mission-driven digital and communications agency seeking skilled individuals with a passion for making a difference to join our team. Our clients are statewide and local Democratic political campaigns, PACs, advocates, non-profits, and changemaking companies.

Our ideal candidate has prior experiencing leading email and texting for high profile Democratic candidates and/or organizations. In a typical day, you’ll lead team meetings about your clients, work with the advertising team about upcoming creative, and jump in to get more text messages out the door because client’s performance going so well. We are looking for a track record of working collaboratively with colleagues, with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize time to meet deadlines for multiple projects. They will also demonstrate a willingness to jump in on email and SMS strategy execution at all levels - they’re not above any task, and are also willing to take on projects they haven’t faced before. We value individuals who are comfortable admitting what they don’t know, are excited to learn new skills, and who work hard to overcome obstacles.

Responsibilities include:

  • Achieving clients’ fundraising and engagement goals. Developing and implementing online fundraising strategies via email and SMS programs including calendaring, copywriting, loading, testing, segmentation, reporting, forecasting, and database maintenance

  • Overseeing multiple team members and managing the workflow and quality assurance process for email and SMS fundraising programs across multiple accounts. Providing feedback and offering mentorship to your team

  • Guiding client team on email and SMS optimizations and best practices

  • Managing and overseeing data segmentation to achieve maximum ROI

  • Overseeing the onboarding process for growing email and SMS lists

  • Providing top-quality customer service to clients, including regular reporting

  • Oversee email and SMS production including coding, testing, segmentation, and database maintenance. Manage database as it pertains to ROI and source codes.

  • Oversee the development of weekly meeting agendas, reports, recommendations, and insights. Oversee the design, execution and reporting on landing page, copy, and user experience tests

  • Oversee list growth in coordination with advertising team, including but not limited to list buys, rentals, and sends from allied organizations and entities

  • Advise clients on industry best practices and emerging strategies

  • Create fundraising projections for clients

  • Manage the formal copy-editing process. Manage client review process, including editing, redrafting, and quality-control review

Experience we look for:

  • Passion for good causes

  • Experience working at an agency; working with or at non-profits or political/issue campaigns

  • 5-6 years of work experience with at least 1 campaign cycle of experience in a dedicated email fundraising role and 2 years of experience in a role managing people and projects

  • At least 2 years of experience working at a digital fundraising agency

  • Experience using NGP and/or Actionkit. Experience with Acoustic is a plus

  • Basic understanding of long-term lead performance tracking

  • Experience building and executing project plans to achieve fundraising and communications goals

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment

  • Excellent quantitative reasoning skills and ability to apply data to strategic decisions

  • Experience overseeing multiple email programs at once

  • An understanding of campaign communications strategy and strong political instincts

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a client-facing capacity under pressure

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position is $75,000 - $90,000

Digital Specialist (Remote)

Responsibilities include:

Account Ownership

  • Occasionally take full account ownership of assigned accounts with limited oversight from manager. This includes but is not limited to: drafting client agenda, leading internal and external calls, leading on projections and calendars, providing content feedback to team members.

  • Support manager as needed on other accounts.

  • Lead on email production and quality assurance process for assigned accounts

  • Lead on checklist and loading training across CRMs.

  • Draft and edit email and text copy.

  • Load emails and texts as needed.

  • Review email and text samples. Provide creative and strategic edits to associates on their loads.

  • Quality check emails and texts for copy for edits, mobile edits, links and sourcing conventions, and targeting.

Training and Leadership

  • Help train email and texting staff on quality assurance and best practices for segmentation, drafting, and loading across platforms.

  • Ensure that all areas where mistakes commonly happen, like missing punctuation, incorrect links/sourcing/names, or missed edits from managers, partners, or clients are incorporated.

  • Analyze overall program performance and recommend strategies to hit and exceed client goals; ensure topics going out for all clients are working, relevant and mission-oriented.

  • Ensure ActBlue landing pages and backend landing pages across company clients are optimized through A/B testing (copy, branding, innovative strategies).

  • Help associates and fellows capitalize on big news + rapid response moments.

Planning

  • Help lead planning meetings -- comes to planning meetings with knowledge of email and text performance, content ideas, and strategic recommendations that contribute hitting and exceeding client goals.

  • Ensure that we are prepared for future events (legislative anniversaries, debates, etc.)

Experience we look for:

  • Passion for good causes, whether candidates or other;

  • 3-6 years of work experience with at least 1 campaign cycle of experience in a dedicated email fundraising role;

  • Client-facing project management experience;

  • Experience managing multiple clients or workstreams at once;

  • Familiarity with P2P and/or broadcast texting platforms;

  • Experience using one of the following email CRMs: NGP, EveryAction, ActionKit;

  • Experience working at an agency; working with or at non-profits or political/issue campaigns;

  • Basic understanding of long term lead performance tracking;

  • Experience building and executing project plans to achieve fundraising and communications goals;

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment;

  • Excellent quantitative reasoning skills and ability to apply data to strategic decisions.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position is $60,000 - $70,000.

  • Ability to analyze performance data and use it to guide future content;

  • Quality assurance and checklisting experience in a fast-paced environment;

  • Experience working at an agency; working with or at non-profits or political/issue campaigns;

  • Experience building and executing project plans to achieve fundraising and communications goals;

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment;

  • Excellent quantitative reasoning skills and ability to apply data to strategic decisions.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position is $48,000 - $58,000.
